Biography:

Dr. Lazzara received his bachelor’s degree from Tulane University and his medical degree from Emory University. After graduating from medical school in 1985, he then completed his surgical residency at the University of South Florida followed by his residency in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Lazzara spent the next three years in Oregon as Director of Cardiac Surgery at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend, Oregon and as staff surgeon at St. Vincent Heart Institute in Portland, Oregon. The following two years were spent in Seattle as Chief Medical Officer at the Hope Heart Institute and Director of Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery at Providence Seattle Medical Center.

In 2001 he joined Premier Cardiovascular Surgeons of Tampa Bay at St. Joseph’s Hospital and as of 2003 he joined Cardiac Surgical Associates. Dr. Lazzara is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Surgery, the American College of Chest Physicians and a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.

Dr. Lazzara is a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, with added qualifications in Critical Care. He has a special interest in minimally invasive and robotic surgery and believes in using the latest technology to serve his patient’s needs.
